ABOUT MIKE SHORTEN
Mike and his wife of 13 years, Cheryl, have called Crystal Lake their home since 2001 and have 3 daughters Tessa, Jillian and Delaine. Mike and Cheryl chose Crystal Lake specifically for its character, affordability and the quality of the local schools and park district.

Mike was born in 1971 in Highland Park, Illinois, and spent the first ten years of his life moving with his parents throughout the west and Midwest as a result of his fathers work. In 1981 the family settled in Arlington Heights, Illinois from the time where Mike lived until he married Cheryl in 1995.

Mike and Cheryl lived in Elgin, IL during their first five years together where Mike served in the role as his homeowners association vice-president and president, guiding the community through the transition of builder association management to homeowner management, for a townhome community.

Currently Mike is serving his second year term on the church council for St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Crystal Lake. In 2008 Mike co-founded and currently serves as president of KIC Leukemia, a non-profit corporation whose mission is to help advocate for leukemia related issues.

For the past 15 years, Mike has worked for a national office supply retailer and distributor, starting as in the receiving area of his local store and progressing through the ranks of the company into the role he has today as a National Account Manager.

Mike graduated from Buffalo Grove High School, in 1990 and has taken college courses at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL and Harper Community College in Palatine, IL.
